Ebba Brooks, a resident of Ecumen Lakeshore in Duluth, has devoted herself to promoting and preserving Swedish culture, and now her life-long efforts have brought her a national honor.
The Swedish Council of America’s Award of Merit recently was given to Ebba for her outstanding contributions. This award has been given to more than 100 people across North America and Sweden to recognize grass-roots efforts promoting and preserving Swedish heritage.
Ebba, who grew up speaking Swedish, is a past president of the Swedish Cultural Society of Duluth. She and her husband, Chester, were faithful members of the Vaxjo Committee of Duluth Sister Cities International. They were gracious hosts to countless Swedish and Swedish-American guests and provided overnight accommodations to many Swedish visitors.
Since 2007, Ebba has lived at Ecumen Lakeshore’s The Crest, an independent living facility. Ebba stays busy baking, writing letters and sharing in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. She has created The Brooks’ Family Cookbook, and every family member has a copy.
“I have known Ebba since she decided to make Ecumen Lakeshore her home in 2007,” said Roxanne Sternberg, residence director of The Crest. “She is truly an amazing woman who thoroughly enjoys life!”
