Throughout August, Ecumen is celebrating its 10th Best Place to Work honor from the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal by recognizing employees who live our values every day.
Emily Dummer is a caring and fun-loving nurse who can connect with anyone. She works in Memory Care at Ecumen Prairie Hill, where she has a very special rapport with residents.
She started a men’s group in Memory Care, where she gets the guys together for a special time of eating snacks, listening to music, and talking about baseball, hunting and fishing.
Emily listens intently to what residents are saying, always putting her focus on their needs. She pays great attention to detail and shapes highly personalized care plans that serve each individual. She always has a positive, can-do attitude and handles issues gracefully and compassionately. Oftentimes, you will see her kneeling at a resident’s side, offering consolation and support. She has a natural rapport with people – staff and residents alike. On the weekends she is on call, she lets the RA’s know that she is there at the building and checks in with them personally to see how their weekend is going.
Emily is a nurse who will drop everything to help where she is needed, and she is always checking in with residents in the common areas. If something fun is going on, she’s there. When the dining director recently bought some salt and vinegar crickets as a joke, Emily went along with the fun and ate one – to everyone’s delight. She likes to participate in all the community activities, such as volunteering to help at our annual prom by helping the ladies get dressed up, helping at happy hour and dancing with residents.
