Flag Day this week was celebrated with enthusiasm at Point Pleasant Heights on the Ecumen Parmly LifePointes campus in Chisago City, Minn.

Resident Jerry Barnhart, an Army veteran and retired minister and chaplain, arranged a dedication ceremony for the new flag pole (shown here), which has a solar light and two flags – the American and POW/MIA flags. Jerry is at the far right, along with three members of the Forest Lake VFW Post who came to take part in the ceremony.

Jerry donated his time and materials in honor of his late wife, June, and had a brass plaque made in her name that was applied on the pole.  To learn more about Jerry’s highly entertaining tour of duty during the Korean War, check out this earlier blog post.

Also there was a lunch in honor of Flag Day, complete with a flag cake made by the dietary staff.

“It was yummy,” said Mara Krinke, Housing Director at Point Pleasant Heights.
